Rome, 30 January 2026 – Roma Capitale inaugurates the first Public Photography Centre , an avant-garde cultural centre located in the historic spaces of the Capitoline Archives.
The work, carried out by the ATI IAB Spa/ SARFO APPALTI E COSTRUZIONI Srl, which won the contract, is the result of a synergic collaboration involving Archeologia Industriale 2030 Scarl together with To Be Srl and XAL , partners of excellence for the technological and lighting components.
The project represents a model of complex management in the cultural heritage sector : Archeologia Industriale 2030 Scarl masterfully coordinated the architectural recovery and structural restyling, while To Be and its strategic partner XAL designed the lighting and multimedia design, integrating cutting-edge digital solutions into the evocative context of industrial archaeology.
Innovation and conservation: the project's challenge
The project transformed a historic space into an interactive hub. Thanks to the vision of Archeologia Industriale Scarl, the structure retained its original charm, while To Be and XAL implemented an intelligent lighting system capable of:
- Enhancing industrial volumes through a minimal but high-performance lighting design;
- Ensure the preservation of the works with latest-generation LED technologies and sensors;
- Creating an immersive multimedia experience, where light guides the visitor to discover the Capitoline photographic archive.
The voices of the protagonists
"This new Center demonstrates how Rome knows how to valorize its past through innovation," commented Federico Mollicone, President of the Chamber of Deputies' Culture Committee . " The work carried out by the IAB/SARFO consortium and Archeologia Industriale 2030 Scarl, together with excellent partners such as To Be and XAL, has allowed us to give back to the city a public space where photographic memory finds a modern, technological, and accessible home. It is a source of pride to see Italian and European companies collaborating so effectively for our capital ."
“Collaborating with Archeologia Industriale 2030 Scarl on this project was a truly valuable experience,” said Francesco Paolo Russo , CEO of To Be Srl . “Together with XAL, we had the opportunity to integrate our vision of lighting and multimedia into a top-notch overall management solution. It wasn't just about lighting, but about giving a technological soul to an industrial archaeology site, making the technical complexity invisible to leave room for the emotion of the images.”
